GLP-1 medications such as semaglutide (Wegovy, Ozempic) and tirzepatide (Zepbound, Mounjaro) are typically prescribed to adults who meet specific BMI and health criteria. The general guidelines used by most US providers are:
- BMI of 30 or higher (obese), regardless of other conditions.
- BMI of 27 or higher with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, or PCOS.
