What is waist-to-hip ratio?
The waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) compares the size of your waist to your hips. It is a simple but powerful indicator of fat distribution in your body. People who carry more fat around their waist (apple-shaped) have a higher risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and metabolic syndrome than those who carry fat around their hips (pear-shaped).
What is a healthy WHR?
For men, a WHR below 0.90 is considered low risk, 0.90-0.99 is moderate risk, and 1.0 or above is high risk. For women, below 0.80 is low risk, 0.80-0.84 is moderate risk, and 0.85 or above is high risk. The World Health Organization considers WHR a better predictor of cardiovascular risk than BMI alone.
How GLP-1 reduces abdominal fat
GLP-1 medications are particularly effective at reducing visceral fat — the dangerous fat stored around your organs. Clinical studies show that GLP-1 treatment significantly reduces waist circumference, improving WHR and lowering cardiovascular risk. If your WHR is in the high-risk zone, GLP-1 treatment may help bring it down.
