Wegovy retail price explained

Wegovy (semaglutide 2.4 mg) has a list price of approximately $1,300/month. This is the price you pay at a retail pharmacy without insurance or savings programs. At this price, a year of treatment costs over $15,000 — out of reach for most people.

However, very few patients actually pay the full retail price. Novo Nordisk offers multiple savings programs that dramatically reduce the cost (see below).

NovoCare savings card

The NovoCare Wegovy savings card is the most impactful cost-reduction program:

  • Eligibility: Commercial insurance only. Not available for Medicare, Medicaid, or VA beneficiaries.
  • Savings: Up to $650 off per fill, reducing copay to as little as $0/month
  • Duration: Up to 2 years of savings
  • How to get it: Sign up at NovoCare.com, present the card at your pharmacy

NovoCare cash-pay pen program

If you do not have insurance, Novo Nordisk offers a cash-pay pen program that provides Wegovy at approximately $149/month. This is a dramatic reduction from the $1,300 retail price and makes Wegovy accessible without insurance.

Best deal: If you have commercial insurance, use the NovoCare savings card ($0–$25/month). If you have no insurance, use the NovoCare cash-pay pen ($149/month).

Insurance coverage for Wegovy

Commercial insurance

Most major commercial plans (Blue Cross Blue Shield, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Cigna, Anthem) cover Wegovy with prior authorization. You must meet the criteria: BMI ≥30 (or ≥27 with a weight-related condition like hypertension, type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, or sleep apnea). Your provider must submit documentation.

Medicare

Medicare Part D does not cover Wegovy for weight loss. See our Medicare & GLP-1 coverage guide for details and potential changes.

Medicaid

Medicaid coverage varies by state. Some states cover Wegovy with prior authorization; others do not. Check with your state's Medicaid program.
